My computer (Windows Vista) won't recognize my HP Photosmart D110 printer as being wireless. It will recognize if I have the USB connected. The printer is properly networked and recognizes the wireless router. My computer also is using the wireless router/modem just fine for Internet connection. My connection is set up through Verizon which is connected to Cradlepoint due to have 2 computers sharing the same connection. While installing from USB to wireless it detects the pc settings and it being connected to a wireless router with my SSID and passphrase, the communication mode, encryption code WPA.
I click next and it runs diagnostic test. It tells me that the computer is unable to communicate with the printer at the ip address.
I have checked and it is the ip that is listed with my Verizon router which is connected to Cradle point. It says to verify UDP port 427 is unblocked for both inbound and outbound traffic. I have searched all over the internet and have not been able to find out how to do this or to correct this problem.
I have also tried adding a device using the instalation cd and when I put in my ip address it says it can’t find it. I installed this set up on another computer (Compaq using Windows Vista) and had no problem. It recognized the printer and will print without being hooked up with a USB. I have done the wireless network test with the printer and it all comes out good. I would appreicate any help with how to correct this. I really wanted to be able to not be hooked up to the printer. I also have my security set to WPA I also did a wireless network test report and it says no problems.
I am not sure if this will work for you. HP Tech support could not suggest anything other than using the Set-up disc that came with my printer. I had a problem that every time I used the printer on my wireless network, I could not access the internet. I had to reboot both computers and Gateway modem and leave the printer off. I gave up for several months before finding this by tinkering with things. I finally set a static IP address and I think the last item here fixed my problem Print a Network Config Page from the printer.
Note the printer's IP address and name (mine were 10.0.0.3 and HP79E26F). Open Internet browser, type that IP address or printer name to reveal the printer's internal settings. Another way is to open HP Solution Centre, (if you installed it from the disc), click on settings at the bottom, click on Network Settings.

This should bring up the same printer internal settings. Choose the Networking tab, Connections, Wireless (802.11), Wireless setup, Start Wizard Enter SSID and password click apply. Choose the Networking tab, Connections, Wireless (802.11), then the IPv4 tab. On this screen select the 'Manual IP' button. Enter an IP address, last number must be higher than other IP addresses in use by your gateway.
(Others on my system were 10.0.0.1, and 10.0.0.2) I set mine to 10.0.0.20. Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet. Leave the gateway and DNS blank. Click 'Apply'. Choose the Networking tab, Wireless (802.11, then Advanced, tick “In an infrastructure network use 802.11b behaviour”. Click 'Apply'.

What is really strange is that I have 3 Identical systems. 2 of them have problems, one does not.
On the first system everything worked great and the printer works flawlessly when printing from it wirelessly. On the second system, I can install the driver and printer just fine, but after a few days it dissapears.
In order to get it inalled again, I have to re-image the computer from scratch. On the third system, It simply will not install. It throws the exact same error that the OP has mentioned. I have disabled the firewall, I have made port exceptions, I turned off the virus scanner. I can get to the printer through the web browser and see everything just fine there. All three systems have the same hardware, same OS (win7 64), and are connected to the network in an identical fashion.
Why the three of them behave differently is completely beyond me. The current solution is to share the printer from the one computer, but this makes printing from the other two an extremely slow process, and is not acceptable in the long run.
I have tried completely removing every trace of the HP software and re-installing it with Administrator rights. I have tried it from the CD, I have tried downloading the latest installer/driver. Getting support from HP is a joke. I get some guy in Pakistan or something who claims his name is Jimmy and barely speaks coherent English. He then wastes an hour of my time making me go through all the troubleshooting I have already done, and even told him I've done. Then he just assumes that it's something on my end and drops it.
This is happening on Clean Windows Installs. I'm pretty sure it isn't the computer at this point. I've tried connecting them to the network in different fashions, I still get the same result. The original system has no issues, and the systems that it's installed on after don't work. (I have tried this on VIsta as well and it did not work there either.) I should also note that I additionally disabled driver verification and am running in Test Mode now and it still won't work.
